5 Reasons People Are Sticking This Little Light Under Their Toilet Lid

You clean the toilet, it looks spotless, and then somebody flushes. Most of us never think about what happens in the next eight seconds, or about the trip to the loo at 2am with the lights off. Here's why more people are sticking a small light under the toilet lid to deal with both.

1. Every flush sends spray into the air
In 2022, engineers at the University of Colorado Boulder shone green lasers over a flushing toilet with no lid and filmed what came out. Tiny water droplets shot up to 1.5 metres above the bowl within 8 seconds, moving at around 2 metres a second. The lead researcher said they "came out like a rocket". The study was published in the journal Scientific Reports.
The simple fix is to close the lid before you flush. Sterila is built around exactly that habit.

2. Your clean only lasts until the next flush
You scrub it on Sunday. By Saturday it's been used dozens of times. Sterila sticks under the lid and, every time the lid closes, its UV-C light switches on automatically for 3 minutes, then turns itself off. UV-C is a well-established way of disinfecting surfaces it shines on directly, and Sterila does it after every use, not just on cleaning day.

3. No more feeling your way to the loo at 2am
Nobody wants the big light on in the middle of the night. Health service falls-prevention advice is to use a night light so you can see where you're walking, ideally one that switches on by itself. Sterila's warm motion light comes on when you walk in, shows you exactly where the seat is, and switches off after 90 seconds. It's ideal for kids, guests and older parents.

4. It fits in a minute, with no tools and no plumber
Peel, stick under the lid, done. It charges by USB (cable in the box), the 1800mAh battery means you're not charging it every day, and it has 3 brightness levels. It's splash resistant and fits most toilet lids.

5. One for every loo, and one for Mum and Dad's
Most people buy more than one: upstairs and downstairs, or one for home and one for a parent who lives alone. That's why the 2-pack and 4-pack work out cheaper per light.
